Just finished listening to an audiobook (thru ITunes) by David Miller - AWOL on the Appalachian Trail. Definitely worth a listen/read!

Downloaded another today, author Bill Walker - Skywalker, Highs and Lows on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Letting you know they're out there

"Homage to Catalonia" by George Orwell and "The Broom of The System" by David Foster Wallace got me through some boring sections on recent walks. Just to stay on the moral high-ground I only torrent audiobooks by dead authors.

I've recently read both Skywalker books (Kindle ebooks), his Appalachian trail one "Skywalker - Close Encounters on the Appalachain trail" is also good.

Planning on the AT in a year or so and have read all three books on my kindle. They are all fantastic reads but i like the idea of audiobooks on an ipod - even less weight.

On a trip in the central highlands of Tasmania a couple of years, ago, I took an iPod for the first time. Because of the time of year, it was near zero at sundown, so we typically went to bed about 6pm and got up at 6am.

I would tend to wake up about 1am, having had enough sleep, so I listened to Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods for an hour before going back to sleep. The iPod is an essential part of my gear now, and oh-so-much-lighter than an e-book reader or even a real book that some others take.
