Meeting a partner bushwalking?

Just curious... For those looking for partners, do you think bushwalking is a way to do it? I see the main problem is that the gender bias seems such that there are way more males than females doing it (for males looking for females) but I would appreciate your thoughts...

I might also add that I read on a USA ultralight hiking site that most of the ultralighters seem to carry two person tents/shelters - just in case...

I've had a couple of interesting encounters, but it's really just a matter of luck.

Don't meet that many people in the bush...

Perhaps this forum might act as a suitable link between like minds? New forum section???

P.S. I 'met' my wife on Facebook, 11 years after attending primary school together. She hates bushwalking, but liking the exact same things isn't the point of a relationship IMO.

P.P.S. I suspect those ultralighters with the two man tents aren't looking for love...

David,

I know of one marriage that has resulted from a couple meeting in a bushwalking club, so it's possible.

Cheers,
Michael.

David I don't agree there is that much of a gender imbalance within bushwalking out there. I spent this weekend on an overnight walk with 5 other females and 4 out of the 6 of us were single.

I also know of a few marriges where partners have met through bushwalking. Some lasted, some didn't. At least the women you can meet bushwalking will be like minded in some way to begin with.

Dont give up the two person tent just yet.

The clubs I know are fairly incestuous!

Now I do a lot of things I probably shouldn't do out in the bush but i definitely draw the line at incest!

at least as many couples i know who both bush walk, I know as many where only one of the couple bushwalks... clubs i've been in there seem to be a fair few women who have joined the club as much because their partner doesnt or can't bush walk and they are looking for someone else to walk with. i'd say more of the women in the club had partners than those who were single. so even taking gender imbalance aside, a lot of the women aren't "available"

Wayno - that was definitely the volleyball spike waiting for the smash to the back of the court.

But seriously, a GPS app that gave you a compass bearing to the nearest available single?? Pure gold

Madmacca - Not sure if that was intended as a joke, as such apps do exist ;)

My parents met through a bushwalking club.

(hey, does that mean I owe my life to bushwalking?)

I met my wife during the bush walk. Well we are walking together almost every weekend for the last 4 years. Last 6 months actually with our daughter. Better bushwalk than a pub I recone.

I walked into my local map supplier and asked the cashier if i could see her map of Tassie, she replied "if it's a tramp your after I could supply you with an easy route". Shocked, i gasped "although flattered with the offer my wife is waiting just outside and although she small in stature and lousy when it comes to wrestling but you should see her BOX!"

Hey, it was a group effort.....Who said benny Hill was dead?!!! Buder, Boom Tishhhh (just for neil).....

Mine was actually a true story and although we didn't meet whilst walking, I figured it was close to the mark. We've walked a lot since.

My wife and I genuinely for real met bushwalking. We were on the same 2 night walk. We were both solo. She passed me on the first day as I was cooking pesto pasta for lunch. The cooking made a good impression. She often admits to disappointment that she has never seen me cooking since - very harsh and untrue. I did a lot, a lot, a lot of walking throughout my 20's and I barely remember ever seeng another single, solo, compatible female in the bush. I don' t think the chances are great for boys looking for girls - but if you are a girl looking for a boy I'd give it a go. 12? years, and 3 children later it's going very well. She laughed and laughed earlier tonite when she saw this thread......

I've met my best friend (a guy) initially on-line, via a computer game we play, but met hubby IRL years ago
I'd say chances might be greater meeting a partner on a bushwalking forum site, rather than randomly stumbling across one on a remote bush track

Maybe a new forum section?
I'll have a think of a name

Have duo - will share
Come walk with me
Looking for love and a campfire to share
Walk my way
Looking for a good route to share
Come share my load
Wanna get down and dirty in the bush
Get dirty in the bush with me
Double tents are more weight efficient
C'mon baby, light my fire
Light my fire

Suggestions welcome - I'm sure there is one that will pass the moderators
