Recreational Tree Climbing

Are there any recreational tree climbers on the forum?

Recreational tree climbing is growing in popularity around the world, particulalry in the US.

Recreatonal tree climbers typically use the same rope methods employed by arborists.
I have already ordered my copy of the "Tree Climber's Companion" book.

I am usually in the presence of millions of trees whilst outdoors, so am keen to start incorporating them into my adventures.

I never knew this was a thing..used to climb trees all the time up till my teens. Havnt ventured off ground since. Sounds like a great idea though. But doubt id use ropes etc. If I cant climb freely wont do it

Been doing a lot of horizontal tree climbing recently. At least 200 of the buggers on one 5km section yesterday. Great fun.

I still climb trees when there's one that can't be resisted and I'm not going to be too embarrassed if I'm caught! Just trying to remember where I climbed one most recently, but I think it was at the top of Minnow Falls, using it to get down and up a small cliff.
And I have never used a rope to climb a tree!!!

Roman Dial in Alaska (more into Packrafting), and Tom Greenwood in Melb, who is an arborist who likes climbing 80m plus trees. Prob neither members of this forum, but Tom was a parent at our local primary school, who is passionate about tree climbing, and introduced me to Roman, and my love of Packrafting.

I spent the afternoon climbing up to a high tree limb in my backyard that I would not have been able to reach without a rope.

I used the Blake's Hitch double rope technique. It was good to get a different perspective of a place I've spent my whole life at. Also good to have fun on ropes without having to travel 1hr+ to the mountains!

We do a bit of tree climbing in the rainforest around our home town but it's not really aborist style climbing. This is more like a climbing wall in a gym, using the network of strangler fig growth for footholds and handholds. It is so much fun and we have a few different trees of varying difficulty. Here's a couple of pics to illustrate.....

Wow they look like awesome trees to climb

Do you mind if i ask what road that is on? (I'm not likely going to visit Coff's harbour anytime soon though..)

This particular tree is beside the Bruxner Park road, just west of Coffs Harbour. Any bit of rainforest with strangler figs always offers the possibility of a tree to climb. Part of the fun is finding trees and working out whether they are climbable. Good luck!
