She made the comment about being up to her elbows in wallaby entrails. I'm not sure how this can be since in this country we are not allowed to kill or eat native animals (in general).

Could be roadkill, (but I think she did kill one wallaby herself).

Which country are you referring to? Obviously not Australia but where else are wallabies native to?

Dramatisation by the author? Maybe we shouldn't take it too seriously.

Common enough in parts of NZ.

I listen to the interview and found out she was with other people and went in to safeway every now and then to get supplies. No really living off the land. Lol more like what onestepmore said

Read the title "My Year Without Matches" not my year without human contact. Your assuming a lot from a brief radio interview. She is not trying to be a female Bear Grylls and the other people are all attempting their own year without matches. You should read the book it is very different to what you've assumed it's about.
It is not a survival guide but there's a lot to be learned and not necessarily about the bush or living off the land.
I hope that's not too cryptic but I don't want to give much away and spoil it for those that want to read it.

From what I read seems more like a 'retreat' or something but would still be worth a read, ill grab the book next time im out. Real survival thing or not, doing this for a year or so appeals to a lot of people

Not a bad effort but I'd prefer to walk for a year than stay in one spot.
