Music written in memoriam(?) of Myles Dunphy

Postby Wollemi » Sun 01 Mar, 2015 2:07 pm

Parked the car and about to walk into work late last night when ABC Classic FM introduced a long piece of music written for Myles Dunphy.

Did not have the time to listen to it - anyone know what it was? Limited instruments with solo violin dominant, I think the announcer stated.

http://www.abc.net.au/classic/music-lis ... 2015-02-28 - does not detail the work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xx4cnKwt0w - was this the piece referred to?

I suspect the piece was "Never Truly Lost" by Brenton Broadstock, according to other websites it was commissioned in memory of Paddy Pallin, see https://www.aco.com.au/whats_on/event_d ... t-clarinet
I suspect the ABC may have mixed up Myles and Paddy.

There's "Never truly Lost" there by Brenton Broadstock. Are you sure the music is not about Paddy Pallin? As far as I know Myles was never a great music listener, although I do think he had a bash on the tin whistle and harmonica for the fun of it on occasion. Just the same it's nice that someone thinks he's worthy of a musical tribute.
PS. Laz Pura was famous for his rendition of The Volga Boatmen, which he loved to perform in the background of the campfire at Blue Gum Forest and on the rock rims of Clear Hill.

Thank you for the correction - it was Never Truly Lost, for Paddy Pallin. I will chase down the recording, and presently blame my error on working two shifts yesterday.

Interesting to read that Laz Pura died alone at Cradle Mountain in 1949.
