Saturday stroll in the RNP

Postby cajun » Sat 11 Jul, 2015 5:36 pm

A beautiful day had my darling wife suggest the chores could wait for another day. She's a keeper :D

We started at the Beachcomber st entrance and walked to the Marley fire trail, across to Marley point, north past the now fenced off Wedding cake rock and past the Galleries. We followed some pads to see if we could find a coastal track down to Jibbon, but failed. Some backtracking and we walked up via a little used track and onto the coast track into Bundeena via Jibbon. We had a coffee and cake break which was was welcome, then via the streets back to the car. 14 kms in all.

The humpbacks were out to play today, which was a very welcome bonus. Way too many to count. Very cool. 8)

No camera gear today, but always the phone. Can anyone identify this "roo" for me. It was blacker than any I have seen before, but I'm guessing an Eastern Gray. Sorry abut the quality - I was lucky it didn't move off sooner.

We were also privileged to watch an Osprey for a few minutes and lots of other avian friends. Lots of wildflowers out too, this grass tree in flower caught my fancy ...

Lots and lots of tourists on the track, I heard American (deeep south), Indian, French, German, and a multitude of Asian languages being spoken. Smiles and "ooooh aah" at the whales being the common denominator

I also had the chance to try out my new Keen Gypsum mid boots. Very impressed.

What a great day!

Nice! Thought about heading that way but got pulled back by family duties.
Just move it!

Great minds think alike cajun . I had much the same idea today but started from Wattamolla and walked a circuit via Big Marley with a side trip to Deer Pool. So our paths all but crossed. Having spent most of the week recovering from running last Sunday's Gold Coast marathon I wanted to ease back into things. Also noticed the American accents today so possibly the same people if they were heading south. A late start and unfortunately missed the whales although I kept an eye out on the return leg. Lovely balmy day before the forecast big freeze.

Many thanks Pteropus! That's it. He/she was certainly not too concerned about us, and hopped leisurely away after a minute or two - straight after I took the pic.

John the Americans were headed south, but I'm not sure the couple I saw were likely to keep going.
