Just wondering if anyone has been able to get insurance which provides cover for situations where you may need to be choppered over high risk sections of tracks (i.e., Milford Track)?

In Australia, my understaning is that ambulance insurance covers all ambulances, including helicopters. Travel insurance policies for overseas should cover helicopters.

Thanks, so far I've found it's only if there's a medical reason for it...

And this only applies to states where ambulances are not free.

For anyone that might be interested, DOC NZ advised there is a "slim" chance of be choppered over closed sections in the early part of the season, and the cost is ~$95, so not at expensive as I thought it might be!
