A major problem I had with that walk was the height of Lake Mackenzie. The track alongside the lake is mostly below the high water mark, so we had to clamber through the undergrowth above the cliff tops. I think you need a lake height at least 3m below maximum, but 5m might be better. Current height seems to be 5.85m below max and steady. Check at this site.
http://www.hydro.com.au/water/lake-levelsWe took so long getting down the lake we abandoned our plant to get to Lake Nameless. So I can't comment on crossing the river. You will probably get wet feet.

I've crossed after/during rain in May, and we got slightly wet feet, but there were no dramas. I've also crossed in "average" conditions in February, and it was easy enough to get over from rock to rock. These pix show both crossings,
cheers

Rather than the Lake track which at the present entails some "orrible scrub bash /rock scramble" you will find it much easier to take the track that starts at the western side of the quarry (up an old dozer track) rising south east over the hill then descending to cross Fisher River and Explorer Creek, we removed boots and wore our crocks for both when Strollers did it Feb 26/27th this year.

HAd a great trip. We had a downpour just before leaving and so Explorer creek was thigh high and running fast. Trip in up the Explorer valley to Explorer Lake, past Snake Lake was excellent. Took us 5 hours going real slow with our 13yo girls. Hut was terrific but people leaving lot's of rubbish - we carried out a bag full of stuff. Trout were working nicely and we managed to catch a few nice ones. Beautiful spot.
