Very quick quilt

Fri 26 Apr, 2013 9:56 am

When I am on the road in the ute I use my old canvas swag to get some sleep.
For a few years now I have been using a combination of an old Swiss Army sleeping bag and a Hollofill doona from Target.
Recently I have been a little annoyed at waking up in the wee small hours with cold feet so yesterday I got the needle and some thread and turned the doona into a reasonable quilt style.
Took about an hour of hand stitching, the footbox used some scraps I had lying around, prequilted sleeve from an old army parka a bit of scrap polyester insulation and an old cotton sheet

Nice work. Having a box foot makes quite a difference in colder conditions and I find it keeps the quilt properly located over the body. A common version is to put in a 45cm opening zip on the sides and a drawstring along the bottom. This means that in warmer weather you can go back to a plain flat quilt.

Thanks Mark
I thought about a drawstring but the box was needed to give the length I needed. also I hate sewing zippers.
Best part about it was the cost, FREE
The doona came out of a ski lodge I used to work for as it is cheaper to buy new sometimes than clean and this one had mildew stains on it.
