More bushcraft than bushwalking but

Sometimes the simplest things give the greatest pleasure. Sitting in a sunny window with a threaded needle in my hand turning Op-Shop things into useful objects.
Had a very thick heavily felted woollen blanket that I rescued from the dog blanket box a few years ago, cost me $2-, tried using it as a serape but too heavy and too warm and needed a windproof layer anyway.
Because of my current illness I have been camping out in the lounge room so my coughing won't disturb my beloveds much needed sleep and been using it folded in half as an underblanket. It kept getting moved and often I woke up with only one layer under me.
This morning I decided to sew it up, and looking around I saw a big length of bonded polyester from an air-conditioning duct that was the about the right size to fit inside the folded blanket.
An hour later I have a nice thick underblanket for car and swag camping, finished size the same as my small Thermarest or CCF pad

Hi Moondog, well done, it looks great. That's a good thread injecting project. I've one similar with some fleece. Your blanket looks thicker and warmer.

If you find the layers move around, a bit of quilting will hold the pieces together in the layout you have. Some knot tied quilting might be good if you find you need it, or just in case.....

Using a tough/strong thread like embroidery thread, make a stitch about every 10 or 15cm, in a grid pattern, down through the layers across a bit and back up through, without cinching it down too much, tie a surgeon's knot or a square knot, then snip off the tails a cm or two long. The stitch needs to be wide enough that it has some grab and won't pull through but not so wide that it makes puckers or lumps. A trial will give you the size for your blankets but maybe about 4 or 5mm. The knots aren't very big and won't be lumpy.

And please explain the little lump in the midde that the potentially combustible cat eventually lay on??! I know it's just an unfortunate seam....

I'm surprised the cat still exists. I thought you burnt it when designing the tent heater.....

PS....don't you just have a sleeping bag you can sleep under in such medical emergencies?

The lump is the neck seam from the Serape experiment. Wife likes the cat so not an expendable item.
