Quick match safe

Tue 06 Jan, 2015 8:31 am

I found a broken LED torch in the Safeway car park a while ago.
Rather than put it in the recycle bin I thought I could turn it into something useful
Remove the LED assembly and epoxy in a couple of 10c coins in two places and add in a small 14mm button compass where the switch was [ drilled to 9/16ths which is just enough clearance for the epoxy.
I know the epoxy won't hold forever but it will work for quite a while.
Centre section will hold matches [ note to self- buy lifeboat matches]and the end section ; which has O-ring seals ; holds 4 cotton balls saturated with PJ and Shellite for firelighting. I'll get a small Ferro rod and epoxy that to the outside and there I have it, another piece of emergency survival gear I'll never need and never use.

MD you are very creative! While i take waterproof matches anyway in my first aid kit, this design could be useful too for other purposes like map storage or something similar (might need a bigger torch though)

I think that's a compliment LOL Thanx
Yes you could do lots with a big aluminium cased torch couldn't you

Yes thats a compliment. Would be a fairly safe way to store small fragile things (although none come to mind)
