Ultralight minimalistic cooking set

Wed 20 Jan, 2016 5:47 am

Hello together,

I would like to show you my 103g complete cooking set.

Evernew 400ml Cup EBY265R 49
MYOG alcohol stove 7 Groove Stove, made from a Redbull sized aluminium can with 3cm height
MYOG windscreen 4 Cut out from Toaks Titanium Windscreen
MYOG lid 9 Thinned from an 0,3mm thick sheet of aliminium
Titanium folding Spork 17
plastic foil for burner 1 Otherwise the taste of denautured alcohol could be identified
Lighter 9 Bic Mini
Aluminium Foil 3 Not in Pictures, added for better efiency and ground protection from the heat
MYOG bag 4 Sewed from 55g/m² ripstop nylon
Sum 103

(In some pictures, there are also a measuring tool, meanwhile I removed this from my cooking set, due to the additional weight of 2 grams and the fact, that I now know, how much fuel I need for boiling 400ml  )

Everything fits nicely inside the bag.

The contents (without the aluminium foil, but with measuring cup)

First test to figure out, that I need 13ml of alcohol for boiling 400ml of water.

400ml are enough for freezer bag cooking, and so this cooking set gives me everything I need for my trips :)

That's a nice setup.

It's satisfying to go minimal. Stoveless is a little more minimal. Living off the fat of the land is the ultimate, I suppose.

My minimal stove/pot weighs 61g. Including the empty fuel container, which is a small gas canister, adds about 100g. Your empty metho bottle probably weighs a lot less. But the fuel itself is heavier than gas so it becomes complicated to compare. You have to decide on trip length and what's important: total starting weight, average weight or finishing weight. At some point it seems silly talking about a difference of grams, especially when your gaiters are caked with mud. But we still do it.

Sweet work kImperator! Any insight on how you produced the caldera cone-esque windscreen/pot support?
Also, do I see a paper clip used to secure the two sides together?
