Discussion about making bushwalking-related equipment.

Bought tyvek ages ago......just marked out the foot print of our tents.
My thoughts is you cut the tyvek slightly smaller so that rain rolls off the tent and on to the ground?
Or do you cut slightly bigger?
Or just leave it as a square/rectangle?

You generally cut footprints slightly smaller than the tent floor to stop water getting between the footprint and the floor. The exception is where you want it to extend into the vestibule.

The Hilleberg footprint for my Nallo is the same size and shape as the tent floor, plus the extra bit for the vestibule.
The Tyvek ones I made for the Akto and Scarp are a bit bigger than the tent floors, but still a little smaller than the fly. Keeping the edge inside the fly is important. Even more so if the fly sits higher off the ground.

+1 for smaller: around 7cm or so all round.

Didn't end up using the ground sheet, dragged both along just in case.

Related question:
Is the heavier weight Tyvek better for footprints, or will the lighter weight stuff do the job?
