UL Folding Corflute Table

Just to be completely upfront with everyone this is not my idea or design, all I did was try to replicate a commercially available product from a spare sheet of Corflute that I had laying around.

The steps that I followed to construct the table were as follows.

1) Draw out your design onto a large piece of paper. This was actually the hardest part of the whole project as I didn’t have any dimensions to go by other than the overall size of the table top.

2) Fold & assemble table using paper template to ensure that all looks okay.

3) Use the paper template to draw the design onto the Corflute sheeting, cut out & crease along the fold lines.

Cut out & creased ready for assembly, complete with Velcro dots

4) Fully set-up using Velcro dots to hold the leg cross supports in place.

The table folds down into a perfect size for slipping into a side pocket on your backpack.

It‘s also reasonably light weighing in at only 65gms.

Final Thoughts:

Overall it was quite easy to make & probably took me about a couple of hours all up.

The most time consuming part was drawing the initial template, now that’s done it would probably take under 1/2hr to make another one.

Once the table is set-up for use I was surprised at just how sturdy it actually is.

I don’t think that I’d bother to take it with me every time I venture out but will definitely do so on those occasions when I know that I’ll be camping at locations with no campers tables as I do like the idea of having somewhere clean to put your bits & pieces whilst cooking on the ground.

For those considering making one for themselves the only thing to make sure of is that you have the Corflute hollows running along the length of the table as this is what gives the table its strength & foldability.

Other than that it’s all quite straightforward.

You can get corflute sheets from Bunnings or Officeworks.

Using corflute to make a UL table is a great idea. Thank you Bam for posting this.

I used a bandsaw to cut out the majority of it along with a fretsaw for the tight curves.
Emery paper worked well for cleaning up the edges & removing any remaining dags.

You can also get free used sheets from real estate agents sometimes. It's what they use for 'for sale' signs.

Sorry I haven’t got an image with all of the dimensions on however I recommend that you use the following suggestion.
Print out a copy of my paper template image, probably the larger the better, then using my table top dimensions of 305 x 200mm you can create yourself a scale to work out all of the other dimensions, once you have those numbers it would be quite easy to upscale all dimensions if you want to make a larger sized table.

With regards to cutting out the Corflute, if you haven’t got access to a bandsaw then I think that a jigsaw would work equally as well especially if you use one of the narrow blades designed to cut curves, failing that then a very sharp knife but that will be a bit more challenging due to the flutes.
