Request help glue for carbon fibre pole

This picture shows what I want to do:

I am making a tarp, and the lower end will have a short carbon fibre pole, that will be two pieces. The pole segments are 4x6 (IDxOD) and there is a 3cm length of 6x8 (IDxOD) to be the sleeve to join them.

The plan is to glue the sleeve to one of them, and other can be pulled off for packing away. probably will put in bungee cord.

But I don't know what would be the best glue to use. Does anyone know what glue sticks to carbon fibre? the poles are "twill gloss", so I suppose will have to sandpaper where the glue is applied?

For the record, this is where I bought the tube and the end-caps:

...in both cases I chose "Aliexpress Standard Shipping" and they came very fast.

Hi BarryK, I naturally thought that Araldite would do the trick, but I thought I should consult the experts before commenting.

Yes, I would sand it to get more grip.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like I could go two ways, epoxy adhesive or super-glue.

I have this very cheap epoxy from Bunnings:

https://www.bunnings.com.au/utility-25m ... e_p1662637

Also have super-glue. The only issue I have had with super-glue in the past, is getting the two pieces properly in to place before it grips. So I guess if plunge the sleeve on, with pliers or something to make sure don't push it too far, that should work.

I presume that super-glue is waterproof once set, considering the pole is going to be exposed to moisture.

Just did a search:

...looks like special super-glue is required for waterproofness, not the cheap stuff I have. Epoxy adhesive it is then.

I've used 2 part epoxy for this Barry and it worked fine, you don't need much. The method I used for joining the poles together was a separate 10cm piece to fit the inner diameter of each pole with a small 1cm sleeve glued in the middle to prevent it falling inside. That way I could keep both poles the same length.

You could do a similar thing by gluing a small piece inside the centre of your joining sleeve.

Hi Barryk, Sounds like epoxy is the go. Don't get it on yourself as it is pretty nasty.

I would put a stop on the rod to set the depth of penetration into the sleeve. Could be as simple as multiple layers of sticky tape.
Good luck.
