Harness for pulling baby/gear carrier over snow

Gday,

Im going to convert my existing baby carrier into a sled. Its easy enough to do with some second hand shop skis and a few bolts.

The problem is how to attach it to myself so it doesnt run me over on the descents. Any ideas on how I might create fixtures to my pack (or harness?) to the buggy? Im thinking I could use some small diameter pvc pipe with rope going through it to stop it overtaking me.

Just so you know Im a down and out outdoor educator so theres no way I can afford to just buy one! :)

I just used some bolts and wing nuts through a waist belt that then attached to some aluminum poles with some marine fittings (at the sled end) that allowed the long drag poles to swivel a bit. Check out the marine shops for tiller fittings

http://www.ronstan.com/marine/range.asp?RnID=071 - you will get the idea when you see them

I also split the allow poles and had some sleeves and shock cord within the poles to allow some "stretching" as I was starting out.

I will try and find some photos (it was about 15 years ago!)

1991! Height of skiing fashion!

Sled was made from foam and fibreglass. Had the option of seat in the middle or the top half of the kids pram. They loved it and spent most of the time asleep!

pulled mass will be negligible so almost any combination of poles and hipbelt will work. Cheapest is PVC conduit with nylon cord down the inside. Get the shortest and skinniest skis you can

I thought that if anyone is going to know how to do this it would be you Moondog. Welcome back and I loved the pictures of the trip. Looked like fun.
