Those who have been here for a while may remember my Recycle score of the old Macpac framed rucksack Today I finally finished modifying the US army harness to fit the old frame. t caused a bit of strain on the old sewing machine and cutting the military grade bar-tacks took a while but the end result is comfortable and I think it will be a lot cooler in summer. Also being a lot smaller than by Alpine pack it will ["Perhaps?"] encourage me to pack less.
I took a few ideas from other high end frame packs of the 70s and 80s and utilised as much of the US webbing as I could. Field expedient fix on the lid straps (I'll sew on proper SR buckles when I find my supply of khaki/Coyote Tan ones) and I added some 3-bar buckles on the lid and the lid straps.
Biggest job in the end was replacing the very heavy and super strong American army QR buckles with good units.
Yes I coloured the canvas, for some reason I have an aversion to blue canvas rucksacks

I Have always wondered why so few makers of external frames added lift straps, this was the easiest way to add one to this frame and the polyester cord should last a year or three before it needs replacing.
My beloved keeps asking me why I need all these packs, I confess "It's an addiction" but it keeps me out of the pubs and off the streets where I belong.
