Front Pockets

I usually use a Sea to Summit waterproof map pocket clipped to the front of my Osprey Pack to hold my maps and compass, but the last few walks I found it handy to also keep things I use regularly, like the gps, phone/camera, a snack etc but it was not the ideal way to carry things so I decided to make my own custom front pockets.

It has two small outside pockets that hold the gps and phone respectively and a larger centre pocket that holds everything else. I lined it with fleece to protect its contents and just clip it to the front straps with D clips and small carabiners.
The three pockets are held together with velcro so I can make different shaped centre pockets if I decide to start taking the DSLR and Gopro for instance. I also used the same materials and colours as my Osprey Pack so besides the 'dorky home made look' it matches well

It looks a bit dorky and my wife said she won't be walking with me while Im wearing it so it has more advantages than just being very practical ;) It carries very well, you can't notice it really. Its a lot better than filling my old map pocket up full of gear.

Sorry about the poor quality indoor phone pics.

Nice work. I've always thought about finding some of these, but unfortunately I get too hot when moving.

We went for a walk around Freycinet on the weekend and I am happy to report that my front pockets were a great success, Ill be using them all the time now :)

As silly as they may look, they are super practical and carry without an issue. I had quick access to all my geeky gadgets, snacks and whatever else I decided to pop into them for quick access.

They didn't get in the way climbing, in fact you wouldn't even know they are there.

As long as they do what you want them too that's all that matters. Nice work.

Nice, I find a small front pouch handy.
