I finally finished off a tarp for my hammock, more for use in the colder months. It's a simple rectangle design with multiple tie outs for more versatility in setup styles. It was a pretty uneventful build, and I am happy with how it turned out.

Curious with the corners and the triangular reinforcements, is that a larger triangle peice folded in half over the seam? Sorry if dumb question i spend so much time thinking about corner reinforcements its sad

No I just cut out the triangle pieces and slid them into the hem as I sewed. Nice and simple and I think will suffice.

I tried quite a few different methods for tie outs and this was probably the simplest to sew, especially with the 30denier sil/urethane blend coated nylon. When using this fabric it isn't as slippery as some silicone coated nylons and hence you don't need to pin it. Though it is a slightly heavier fabric.

Looks good Simon. Whats the size and weight of this and how many tie outs does it have? Is this a material that you sell on you site?

I'm still deceiding if I should learn to sew making my own tarp or just buy a Terra Rossa tarp....

I made this one 3.3m x 3.15m with 16 tie outs, I wanted to try out a few different pitching options both for the hammock and on the ground. It weighs 700grams so not ultralight but still decent for the coverage and intended use. This is the 30denier fabric on my site, which is from what I can tell the same fabric used by a number of well known cottage vendors.

Terra Rosa is a good alternative, and I will be selling one of Evan's new tarp designs through my site as well.

Sounds good, which one are you looking at selling? I heard someone mention a real light weight one recently in 15d fabric but couldn't see anything on his web page when I looked.

Are you aware of any good step by step how to's for making tarps with a 'parts list etc'. Not sure what the actual cost is to buy and make vs say a terra rossa gear one....If there wasn't much in it I'd probably just buy made so I get one that's not crap!

Evan has designed a tarp specifically for my hammocks, its longer and has more pronounced cat cuts than his other hammocks. It is made from 20denier silicone coated nylon, with a 3.5m ridgeline and weighs a little over 300grams in the stuff sack. Price will be $175.

I have a tarp kit on the site which has everything that's needed and it costs $98 for the tarp in the above posts including thread. If you used 20d fabric instead of the 30d it would be about $80.
