Extreme weather windshield idea

I just scored a free trangia clone with some bits missing
Looks like either ALDI or Rays Homebrand stuff
Very heavy for what it is but sometimes you may need maximum wind protection.
I just joined BPL and I' asking the same question over there
Obviously the maximum size of pot would be limited to 12mm less than the diamter of the windshield but that is still giving me the use of all of my current pots except the big 8 and 10 litre ones
I was wondering about cutting it to suit the MSR XGK-EX for my proposed Arctic trip, simiLar In concept to the big choofer boxes used in the Antarctic

Oh good Another two pots for the stash, just as well the Boss is still in New York or i'd be getting yelled at now

THIS WOULD WORK EXTREMELY WELL EXCEPT FOR ONE THING
The arms on the MSR are 2 mm too long and I am not going to cut them shorter.
Windshield and pots free to good home if you want to come and collect, but I do have another idea for use with the Arctic base.

That looks very much like a genuine Hard Anodised Trangia.

Except it isn't.
The clones from Aldi and Rays are heavier using much thicker alloy
Rays sell the clones alongside the real thing and the difference is apparent when side by side.
Now If I could get my hands on one of the bigger windshields from Trangia this concept would work but not with the smaller size and they do not come up cheap all that often

Yeah They are, but the clones are a little thicker and heavier again and the QC isn't as good.
There is very little in it but from memory the Trangia is still stamped "Trangia" and the clones are not

Try this guy - he may have the parts you want... do you want upper or lower windshield?

Not too expensive but too much for an experiment that would ruin the parts for future use, titanium foil would be cheaper for what I have in mind and I can use Al flashing for the trial

Given that the "state of the art" 1980s stove was an MSR XGK, with foil wind guard, which was the same wind guard provided with my MSR Windpro a few years ago, why reinvent the wheel? BTW, Windpro turned out to be dud, and died after 3 yrs ( not impressed), replaced with fire maple stove, yet to be used.

Because the supplied windscreen is a cost and weight effective solution for "most" situations andrewa but at really cold temperatures using a choofer box or the equivalent means needing only one stove and not the dual stoves some people seem to need at -40 and lower.
It makes the choofer more efficient by keeping the hot gases in contact with the pot sides for much longer, also a solid windscreen is far more stable and less likely to suffer fron an accident and not least because I like to tinker.
If increasing the efficiency by even 10% was achieved over a month that is a lot of fuel when melting snow for all water needs add in time saved and I think it would be worthwhile
For the same reason the stove and fuel bottle get solidly anchored to an insulated heat resistant plate of water resistant ply and aluminium.

I am thinking ahead to my 2020 trip to Alaska and Canada

Ah. I think the coldest I've ever hit was about -8 in KNP, many years ago, and these days rarely seems to get below -2 on Bogong in winter.

What about CCF attached to outside of foil?

Oh, and also what about taking some black builders plastic , chucking snow on it, and collecting any run off late afternoon?

I do something like that with a clear bag/black bag sitting on a CCF pad, it works here, not sure about the Arctic in winter; I'll ask
