ideas for bag closure

Hi,
Although not strictly bushwalking related, I thought that I would try my luck asking for some thoughts from the good MYOG people
I am making a bag to store some cricket/tennis balls for my son and am stuck at designing a closure. Think of a bike pannier - I have a old panniers that i am thinking of modifying...asymetrical shape with a straight rigid inside edge and then bag in a semi-circular shape. Ideally I would like it to open up fully naturally and close fully.
A throat and drawstring would have dangly bits when open and get in the way. Would like to avoid
A zip - the shape makes it difficult & may require dangly bits
Roll or fold top is essentially a throat and same issue.
Magnets - no doubt would close when you least want it. Tricky design
velcro - similar to zips & magnets but added irritation from the hooks.
Out of these I think a drawstring or zip are the leading options.
Any other suggestions ? Anything obvious that I may be missing ?
Any thoughts appreciated as this has been doing my head in !
cheers
