Once an item is sold, found or thread is no longer needed we move it here. These maybe helpful for historic reasons.

Hi everyone, I have a Dombrovskis: A Photographic Collection book which I'm considering selling. It was published in 1998 and is very rare; of the very few copies of this book that have sold in the last few years, they have sold for greater than $1,000. It has black cloth with Peter Dombrovskis' photographic portrait laid into the front cover, with a matching black cloth-covered slip case. It is in virtually as-new condition and has been extremely well looked after (as one would hope for a book of this nature!). I am a (hobbyist) landscape photographer based in Tasmania.
This is the only copy of this book currently available for sale anywhere.
If anyone is interested, please contact me on my mobile (zero four one eight 267 205).
Thanks, James

Hi James,
seeing as I have this book I thought I'd chime in and say that it is without a doubt the finest book of nature/landscape/wilderness photography ever produced, in the world, ever. I also have 'Simply' and 'Wild Rivers' which are excellent books of Peter Dombrovskis work and I own a number of other books by well known artists & photographers and frequently borrow books with a similar theme from my regional library. Some of my favourites are those from Ansel Adams, Richard Woldendorp, Eliot Porter, Henri Cartier-Bresson, etc you get the drift, but Dombrovskis: A Photographic Collection is simply the best.
It's taken me years to begin appreciating all the photos in the book as they are all remarkable and it's hard to get through too many pages in one sitting without being a bit overwhelmed, I've recently been enjoying some from the back of the book that I hadn't really noticed before
I did a quick search for it and couldn't find a copy anywhere, proving that it is quite rare. I've searched for it at other times just to see if there are any out there and what they are selling for and I think last time I found 3 copies for sale at $800 (it had slight damage and didn't have the sturdy slip case), $950 and another which was advertised for $1500! (& I should add that it none of them lasted very long).
Sorry to hear that you are selling it but good luck

phan_TOM It appears we have the same books...
When James advertised his book on the forum I got busy on the internet and discovered there were two copies of it for sale anywhere - his, and another in Hobart which was listed on a book site in USA.
Having talked with James and duly considered, I decided to purchase (at considerable cost) the other one, which means as of my most recent search, his book is the only one listed for sale in the world!
I'm sure that someone will be very pleased when they purchase it, and I think it's pretty cool that it's advertised only here on the forum.

Yeah it's way cool Adam & congratulations on finding one of your own, you will not be disappointed.
Not only is there ~150 of his photos but also some nice written material, a couple of esays, a short autobiographical piece & some words explaining a little about the technical aspect of Peters work by his wife Liz. I love his photography but also really enjoy learning some more about the man and how he worked, literally and photographically, as there isn't a lot out there, that I can see, and it's very insightful and inspirational. Something to aim for eh

Oh man- I sooooo want this book. I've seen it listed on Abebooks for a dang sight more than $1000. For me it represents the pinnacle of photography. I'll trade you 3 cats, eight chickens and a first-born son for it!
(He's my wife's son, butshe'll be happy. She wants that book as well)

Nuts from memory the dustjacket has one of the images and the book has the other. I will confirm over the next couple of weeks if I remember.
Tastrax, PM sent.

You're right Nuts, the dust jacket has the smaller black and white portrait and the book has the larger portrait (see pic)

Your priorities are so messed up!

Hi all,
After some consideration, I've decided to withdraw this wonderful book from sale.
I was uncertain about listing it in the first place, and whilst after reading some of the comments here about the prices this book fetches, I really don't want to part with it.
I'm sure I could have put it on eBay or similar and made a tidy sum, but I think I would've only felt disappointed if I did so.
Apologies for the change-of-mind, but I think the discussions here on this forum only strengthened my initial feelings of hesitation.
Kind regards, James

Since it's withdrawn...
Last year Just Tassie Books had a very nice copy for $800 so it is possible to find at lower price. Unfortunatly I didn't have $800 to spare
He said while it's rare, it does come in every now and then so might be worth checking out occasionally

Also since it's withdrawn, I got mine here -
http://www.abebooks.com/9780958683333/D ... 683336/plpI found it listed at US$792 or something like that, and saw the book seller was in Hobart, contacted them directly and got it for $750 delivered! And in excellent (as new) condition.
That was cheap... I was lucky.
Seems there are none for sale anywhere at the moment.

No, I just had a look and couldn't find one 'anywhere' so it looks like you got lucky Adam, especially at that price considering I saw one sell for $1500 not that long ago
I found this while doing a search, it's a video made by Tim Parkin and Joe Cornish talking about the book
http://www.timparkin.co.uk/2009/12/joe-cornish-talks-about-peter-dombrovskis/, it's
fairly interesting.
