Expedition mountaineering gear

Wed 27 Feb, 2013 9:07 am

Just tweaking my gear sizes abit and getting rid of stuff not used.

Spantik 42.5 - RRP 900, selling $300
The absolute best mountaineering boots in the world for technical winter climbing, or mountaineering in the 6000-8000m peaks.
Retails at mountain equipment for $900, or ($750 USD + $90 shipping back to australia).
Bought brand new, size 42.5 and have used them only ONCE. Went for a 10km walk in them and realised they were too small - so I bought the next size up.
These double boots are 98% new with hardly any noticable wear on the thread. The inners have not been heat moulded to my feet yet.

Millet Everest 42.5. RRP $1200, selling $500
The best mountaineering boots in the world for peaks above 8000m
Fits me ok with thin socks but too tight with my expedition socks. Brand new.

Mountain Hardwear down suit RRP $1250 + 100 postage from the US selling $450
Again, this is THE suit you see in photos of people climbing everest. ALso very suitable for climbing in the 6000m range in winter. This thing is very expensive to post back to Australia due to its size. Used for a couple of days, Size medium.
I am usually a medium in MHW but this fits more like a large.

Eddie Bauer Peak XV RRP $350, selling $200
brand new, size small in red. Fits more like a medium
This thing has 5 inches of loft powered by 850 down. google it and its one of the warmest down jackets in this price range suitable for 8000m peaks.

Rab neurtrino endurance Rrp $340 selling $200
size small, colour black. worn a few times but in perfect condition and washed properly with down wash.

The North Face XL base camp duffel. RRP $280, selling $150
You wont find a better duffel around.
Bought about 4 of these for my expeditions but only needed 3. Yellow and brand new, size XL

Yes its cheaper in the US but postage back would cost alot more since 2013. all these prices are posted to your door.

Re: La Sportiva Spantik - $350 mountaineering boots

My normal size is a 42.5, but i found my new 43 to be pefect

so if you are normally a size 42, these will be suitable for you. My size 43 have been up Mt Elbrus and some 7000m peaks in the himalayas, and toes were cosy during my recent winter climbing trip to the himalayas. Perfect for NZ winters.

I'm interested in the Peak XV. What is the fit like of the small Peak XV compared with the small Rab neurtrino? I've got a small Rab Xenon & Photon Jackets and they fit really well, do you feel the Peak XV runs a bit larger than Rab gear?

Also what sizes do you normally use for trail runners etc? I'm normally a 42.5 / 43 however found I had to size up to a 44 with my scarpa mountaineering boots so I'm guessing your boots would prob be a bit small.

Hey Ninjapuppet.
If you still have the Med Mtn Hardware Suit available id be keen as mustard to pick it up for a trip or two and then retire it as an awesome driveway shovelling attire ;-)

PM sent.

what are you going to shovel in a queensland driveway wearing this??
this thing is so warm that I have slept in just this suit without a sleeping bag, in the middle of a kosciuzko winter. Its got more down in it than most Australian sleeping bags marketed for winter.
