So I have a hand-full of hammocks that I am wanting to sell.

A bit about myself. My alias online is Ghillieshot, you can find me on Hammockforums.net. I have been making and researching hammocks and mods for the past 3 years. I have done massive research on Warbonnet Blackbirds and Hennessy hammocks. I originally owned a HH Explorer Deluxe classic enrty, but after I started to research and make my own I have since sold that. I have uploaded 'whipping technique' videos to youtube after much research on how and what method worked best. They are only rough as it was to answer my thread on HF.net

DIY Blackbird in ACU: 1.6oz Ripstop nylon
With adjustable ridgeline
668 grams (not including suspension)

This has everything that the normal Blackbird has, just doesn't have suspension. It has a continuous loop on each end though. It is very comfortable, as I just slept in it last night for the last time. The zips are very smooth


DIY Hennessy with bug net sock: 1.9oz Ripstop nylon
With adjustable ridgeline, and whoopieslings
608 grams (including everything, suspension, bugnet sock with pockets sewn in, hammock, ridgeline organizer with 3 pockets each side and a middle section for bigger items I always put my water bottle in there, adjustible ridgeline, tie outs with taught line hitch and shotckord to help with taughtness)

I also have a Hennessy UL Backpacker for sale. Brand new going at $240 + shipping. Now this is BRAND NEW NEVER USED. It is sold for $294AUD shipped to Australia. But I don't need it so I am selling it for $240 + shipping. It will take a bit of time to ship this, as I won't be at the house where it is stored.

Hennessy has it at $254 AUD, and there is a minimum charge of $40. So all up I have spent $294 on the Hennessy. So let me know if you are keen on a bargain.

Hi I am 185cm and 110kg. Would that be too big for these hammocks?

Hi there Chuditch,

You wouldn't be too big at all. I am 185cm tall and fit the blackbird very comfortable. The DIY Hennessy is a bit smaller, but I still fit in it fine. As for the strength of the two hammocks, the Hennessy diy is made of 1.9oz ripstop nylon. Easily hold up to 150kgs. The Blackbird is 1.6oz and should hold up to 130kg or there abouts. The Blackbird, because of it's design, you have to be careful not to sit too far back in it when in seated position as the footbox side is taut and will tear. Let me know if you're keen. They should both hold you fine if used properly. By the way I am 95KGs.


Well after I took a better look at weight strength of each material I found that you would be fine for the DIY Hennessy (This comes with everything for the set up, whoopie slings, hammock, fronkey style bugnet, whipped to the hennessy method and had tie out points as does the hennessy) would hold you very comfortably (on the strength side) as it could hold up to 115kg with a comfortable lay, before much stretch. As for the Blackbird, it can hold people up to 105 very comfortably before any stretch, and can hold up to about 115kgs. Now these are rough estimates and probably a tad under as the research I found were from manufacturers of hammocks who would under estimate anything when it comes to liability. But I would recommend for you the DIY Hennessy as it WILL hold you comfortably and you won't have to worry about the taut side tearing. So let me know what your thinking.

PS: The bug net has build in pockets too.

I got the prices mixed up on my last post, $160 for the Hennessy + shipping (max of $10) and $150 for the Blackbird + shipping ($10 max) Neither of them come with tree straps.
