Wild Country/Terra Nova Quasar 4 season tent

Sun 07 Feb, 2016 4:43 pm

I bought this tent about 20 years ago when Terra Nova was then Wild Country.....used it quite a bit 2-up over the years then 2 years ago replaced the original flysheet with the current Terra Nova UK-made Quasar fly in dark green and also purchased a new TN pole set. Then noticed that the floor was almost had-it so I had Remote Equipment Repairs replace the floor using some Macpac dual-sided floor fabric....Ray at RER did a top job and the replacement floor is actually far better than the original.

Haven't used the tent since the referb. as I do most of my backpacking solo these days and use the Minaret. Tent is in great nick, new flysheet, new pole set and replacement floor, full peg set and bags for tent, poles and pegs. Basic features : 4 pole geodesic dome, inner pitch first....free standing, 2 entries/vestibules, full fabric inner with double thickness doors...full fabric & mesh. Floor dimensions are 2250 long and 1450 wide. Fly is rated to 8000mm and Ray told me that the new floor was 10,000mm rated....so no footprint needed at all. New floor is tub-styled as per the original and fully seam sealed and all flysheet stitching seams are tape sealed of course. Original inner body is still nice and clean and in excellent nick with no holes/repairs, all zips work fine, large gear stash pockets in each corner and a TN gear loft fitted. Weight is : 4.5kgs all up.....so not a lightweight but when split-up between 2 each 1/2 is quite managable.

The TN Quasar is still regarded as one of the best mountain/severe weather tents made and TN produces this model currently with a RRP of 550 GBP's ! Would like to see this get some more use as I can't see it doing any more trips with me with my current solo backpacking arrangements. I've spent far more on refurbing this tent than what I'm asking....but unfortunately I'm always reluctant to bin any of my good tents that have served me well.....one day I'll learn....maybe ! : PRICE : $350 plus $20 posted anywhere in AU. PM me if interested Cheers

More info and specs on this tent can be found here : http://www.terra-nova.co.uk/tents-and-s ... asar-tent/

Yes, a fantastic winter tent. I have an older version - with the original (? Welsh) "Wild Country" brand name. It's seen some really ugly weather, and, like you, I' have been reluctant to part with it. Whoever buys ithis will have a tent that won't ever get blown over, and won't collapse under snow. Big statement!

I too would recommend this tent if you ever contemplate a High Country winter trip, it being substantially lighter than my own FairyDown Plateau which shares the same design and dimensions

Agree regarding the Plateau, very strong design but a bit heavy, especially for one.

My usual tent is an MSR Hubba hubba at 1840 gms is a fair bit lighter.

If anyone needs a strong tent, I would be happy to sell it, in vg order too.
