Mate how do these things work? Just like a mobile phone only you have reception everywhere? What does the thing weigh? Is this your mobile of choice even when you have reception over seas? How long does the battery last for between charges?

The phone operates just like a mobile except a few differences.
Antenna should be pointed towards the satellite, eg for my new iridium it is pointed towards Papua New Guinea 60 degrees from horizontal. I forget which direction it is for globe star.

It's heavier than a mobile, about 350g
Once you got a call, you can't just walk around during the call or you get disconnected.

But it's benefits are obvious.
Before all these cheap prepaid sims were available worldwide, used it as my main phone when travelling because roaming charges were too crazy. Just call back home unlimited and it was still just $40/month.

The deal ends 31dec but they did have this deal a few yrs ago when I was with them so they may put it back up again in future.

No need to go with pivotal as they will rip you off, and you are in the same satellite network anyway so it's not like you get better reception.

Does the phone need to be linked to Australia in any way? Or can you use any carrier globally?

I notice that other plan is Roaming in North America and Caribbean - maybe the charges if the phone was used in AUS would be at higher rates?
