FS [VIC]: MLD Duomid

Once an item is sold, found or thread is no longer needed we move it here. These maybe helpful for historic reasons.

FS [VIC]: MLD Duomid

Postby philthy » Wed 14 Aug, 2013 5:30 pm

I've got an MLD Duomid for sale, in olive brown silnylon.

I bought this off BPL as new already seam sealed and used it on my recent hike of the Larapinta Trail, maybe only 8 nights in total (the rest we cowboy camped), it is in great condition.

I was really impressed with this shelter, so much so that I am selling it to upgrade to a Cuben version.

RRP is $215USD ($235AUD) with an 8 week weight. Will sell it for $210 shipped in Australia.

Thanks for looking.

As punny as this is, what is the actual weight?

I have the olive brown silnylon version & I think it's about 520g for the fly by itself

It's amazing that so many people are keen to pay an extra $200 to save 120 grams for the cuben version! or maybe the cuben has other properties that I'm unaware of?

I'm at work now but I'll weigh it when I get home.

In terms of the silnylon vs cuben question - aside from the weight savings, I quite like the transparency of cuben, but that is personal preference. Others prefer the privacy/morning sun blocking properties of silnylon. Other differences are the fact that silnylon has stretch so less stress is placed on it in high winds and it is easier to pitch, but in very cold/wet conditions it may mean needing to retension your lines slightly. Then there is the durability of the fabrics, cuben having a higher tensile strength, but silnylon having a much higher puncture resistance and having the stretch that mitigates against the lower tensile strength - you'd say silnylon is a fair bit more durable overall. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, in other words...
