WTB Clear Plastic Bags

Postby mickellay » Thu 12 Sep, 2013 4:43 pm

Im after a quantity of clear plastic bags (I mean clear as in clear, not smokey clear like a freezer bag). I thought they would be a great idea for packing things inside our packs. Also I thought there are also benefits to having them as storage bags for home. Certainly beats having to rip open black bin liners to see whats inside.
Ive had no luck trying to find these around Hobart, but surely they must be available somewhere. Apologies if this is the wrong place for posting this, but since Im expecting to buy them I thought here would be as good as any.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

When I worked at coles we had two types of rubbish bags - slightly 'smoky' ones that weren't very strong (for the customer rubbish bins) and massive strong clear ones for the store's rubbish, which come on a huge roll of several hundred bag.
I'd try asking someone who works at Coles for some bags, it'd be infinity easier if you know someone who works there, but you could try your luck with a random staff member. You're probably better off asking the floor staff rather than the checkouts/fresh produce.

Contact a plastic bag wholesaler. If they don't have exactly what you need they might be able to advise who does. Having said that some wholesalers won't deal with the general public or may have minimum buy quantities.

Well, it makes life easier when you can see whats inside. We have pack liners, but for our needs clear bags would make things easier. I often have my kids with me if it were just me then I probably wouldnt be trying so hard to get them. I then thought how handy they would be at home (we have some things stored in bin liners, much easier to know whats were if you can see)

I just open the top of my pack liner and look in. How many bags do you have? I have one for food and one for toiletries, one is red and one is black.

Why store things in bin liners at home? :?

As I said, we have pack liners. We are 6, and for our purpose clear bags would be better.

I store some things in bin liners at home because I dont have any clear plastic bags.

You could try office suppliers, I bought some heavy clear bags around 35-40L to use as (small) pack liners and food bags. I would think ebay would be another source?

Thank you everyone for your ideas and thoughts. Im sort of amazed that they are so difficult to come by especially when you consider that so many products come in clear plastic bags. I thought Id just go in and get them at woolies or coles but after being everywhere from supermarkets to hardware to cleaning supplies Ive all but given up.
Shall check office supplies in the yellow pages and see how I go.
I tried Officeworks which actually have them on line, unfortunatly you can only actually get them in store though (if that makes sense) however, after calling the local officeworks and several interstate branches it appears no one has them.

You will get clear plastic bags at any pet shop that sells aquarium fish. They package the fish in them for transport from the shop to the persons aquarium. They are quite heave as well, to avoid any splitting.

240L might be a bit on the large side. Good if you want to dispose of a body though I guess!
