Hi Everyone,

I did a 5 day hike along the Great Ocean Road last year where we borrowed most of our gear and now I'm looking to get some decent stuff of my own. I am planning to do some 2-3 day tours on my bike and also some 2-3 day hikes. As such I'm looking for some light weight stuff that will suit both.

Here is what I'm after:

• MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2 Person
• Sleeping bag, something suitable for Victoria all year around, if possible. I don't mind wearing a few extra clothes to sleep or unzipping to cool off.
• Sleeping Mat, I have no idea about these, anything suitable and light would be cool.

If no one has anything along these lines then I would really appreciate some online shopping advice! I have looked at a few stores overseas and they seem much cheaper.

The bag is in good condition. You will need extra clothing in winter, or a very good friend. I'll have to check the prices, probably north of $100. Higher offers will be considered.

Look for a tapered sleeping mat with cut-outs in the foam. My mats are all shoulder to knee. You should get away with well under 500 gram. I don't know the market that well as my mats declines to fade. I really wish some things would fall apart so they can be replaced. At present it's me that's falling apart. Not good.

Yep, US are a lot cheaper. Amazon is good for widely available things, and the Aussie dollar still buys you a lot, especially if you have a good credit card which doesn't charge international transaction fees.

You can pick up some good stuff in US forums, try Backpacking light and hammockforum. Shipping usually isn't exorbitant.

Campsaver is good and will ship to Aus for free for orders over $400, but they don't ship a lot of brands to aus. Campmor are similar but don't ship at all to aus, so you will need to use a freight forwarder if you buy with them (Such as shipito or priceusa) Even when paying for a freight forwarder you can nsave a large sum by buying in the US.
IF you're a real gram counter you should look into cottage manufacturers such as tarptent, zpacks, enlightened equipment, and many others.

I've got a mountain designs mat I could get rid of, nothing wrong with it, I'm just upgrading.

Good mats these days don't have foam in them. Look at either Thermarest Neoair or Exped Synmat/Downmat. I prefer Exped.

That's true, and I must admit my Downmat UL 7 is very comfortable and warm for the weight.

Damn that does look nice. I have a mat coming already but someone else might want to jump on it!

I now have the mat and bag covered!! Just looking for a decent lightweight tent. C'mon guys, someone must have something! I'm itching to get out on my first adventure

I have a summer tent you can BORROW if you like. 1.5kg packed.
I call it the tent swag... It's like a swag but made of tent. It's not great but if your a warm sleeper will be fine that or have a well insulated mat and bag.
I'm a cold sleeper and was fine above 10degrees in it.
