[Wanted Sydney] Use of large format scanner

Hi,
I am currently undertaking a maps project with the aim of making many old bushwalking maps from NSW (or whatever I can get my hands on) available once again in a digital form to bushwalkers. I can work with copyright issue and collecting of the paper maps, but I am having issues with the digitising.
Large format scanners such as those provided by officeworks work well, but they do cost money, and the bill soon racks up when you start scanning hundreds of maps. Want I am after is someone who can get me access to such a scanner, and will do so without charge. Somewhere within the Sydney region is prefered, however I can drive a few hours from the CBD if necessary.
Another option is to use a digital camera to digitise them, but unless you have the right equipment and know what you're doing, it's hard to get the quality I am after for the large A1/A0 maps.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
