Perhaps someone looking to upgrade to the newest model is what I was thinking.

There was a MK3 on Gumtree WA yesterday and this morning (now gone) for $700 with only 23 shots on the counter.
If I hadn't committed to ResQLink+ PLB, I'd have been around there myself.
I'm sitting here with the PLB without being able to press any buttons unlike the new owner of the Sony.
