- Aarn Effortless Rythmn and balance pockets
Forty year old Mountain Mule H frame pack for only $350.00. A real bargain at that price. I will throw in for free, a brand new Aarn Effortless Rythm pack (large size but with plenty of +/- adjustment) with Photo Pro balance pockets. Aarn pack used once on the Arm RiverTrack into Pelion just 2 months ago. The only marks of any kind are two small areas with charcoal marks from brushing against burnt bushes. Large/long size. Perfect for multi-day walks of any kind. New price in Melbourne would be $500.00. The Mountain Mule has about 100 km (not 1,000) on the clock and still looks good! No tears, corrosion, repairs or weak spots. Internal throat is good as are the base, straps and buckles. Prefer pick up or delivery in Melbourne but willing to post at buyers cost if necessary. All I really want to do is sell the Aarn but if someone is truly interested in the Mule?

Damn, after pondering for the past several months about how best to carry my stupid amounts of photo gear I finally bit the bullet and ordered last week. Paid up front. Although I went for the Featherlite Freedom...
Anywho, sorry that I can't buy, but I'm curious how you found the system and how much camera gear you were carrying.

Howdy. The pack easily swallowed 7 days worth of equipment although I used the balance pockets for food and fuel instead of camera gear. The pockets could accommodate a big SLR plus loads of lenses and much more. I found the system to be very comfortable on the flat and very good going uphill but a bit cumbersome on steep downhill sections (I should have unclipped the pockets to better see my feet - but I was lazy). I am selling because of arthritic problems - nothing to do with the pack at all. By the way, the waterproof throats in the packs upper and lower compartments gave me a great sense of security in the rain.

Anyone who is thinking about this, stop thinking and take the plunge! Incredible packs that will change the way you feel about carrying a load - big or small.

Photo of the Mountain Mule please. Not really interested in the Aarn but the big H-frame for sentimental reasons

What is the combined size in litres of all the packs combined?
And where abouts in vic are you based as would be good to have a look and a try on if close to melbourne
any issues with not being able to see your feet with the pouches?
Thanks
Dicky

Real High tech for it's day, that's the "Lightweight" Mountain Mule, nylon webbing and no~? side compression straps and a tad smaller than the "Expedition" model
If I remember correctly you could fit 8 casks of red wine in one of those and a small sleeping bag

Yes. Aarn pack plus balance bags equals 80+ litres although this seems conservative to me. If you left out the small sleeping bag from the Mule it is (or was) possible to slip in a couple of bottles of Green Ginger wine along with the casks.
