While I hate retiring any of my good old tents this one has me beat......the flysheet while still in very good nick structurally has lost the PU coating and despite me spending a lot of time and significant $$$ on it with various re-proofing applications it still is not reliable in any rain under a drizzle. So time to admit defeat on this one for me.
So the inner tent is up for grabs for free (just actual postage cost)......structurally perfect and very clean, full fabric inner with 2 doors with mesh and a fabric zip-over panels, storage loft and side pockets. Floor is a high sided tub and typical of the era very strong and totally waterproof. Rated as a 2 person but in-reality "roomy for one"......or two kids. Floor is around 2100 long and 1150 wide. NZ-made. Anyone with a FD Assault in need of a replacement inner or after a spare inner let's know. No poles, pegs or stuff bags......just the inner tent. PM if interested. Cheers

Send it my way
I think I have some FG poles here that will fit and will be OK for the kids with a fly over the top; I've repurposed their play tent as a BBQ cover
I'd be happy to buy the poles if you want to move them on

OK Ted.......she's yours ! It'll be a good little play-pen for the GK's. I'm going to hang on to the poles as they are shortish 9mm Easton's and will come in handy as spares for the Macpac tents. I'll measure one though and let you know it's length all-connected. I owe you some postage for that camo jacket you sent over so my shout on the postage. PM me your postal details and I'll shoot it off to you tomorrow sometime. Cheers

Was just thinking what a fun project it might be making a new fly for it, and then - bang - it's ended up in Geelong!
Obviously I just need to design and make my own tent from scratch!

Yep Andrew Ted swooped on this pretty quickly......a new play pen for the grand kids I think. So good to see that it will get some use again. Cheers

Really solid inner, very high quality of workmanship
A shame you've already ditched the outer as that would have been a shortcut to making a new fly which I could see happening; this is too good for the munchkins to abuse by playing in

Yep Ted...Fairydown gear of that era (80/90's) was good kit and very well made. I have an FD Everest mummy bag bought in Christchurch in '83 that's still my go-to BP winter bag.....shouted it it's first wash last year and a down-boost via Remote Equipment Repairs and it's as good as new again. That Assault has seen some pretty severe weather both here and in NZ (Fiordland) and it's always performed up to expectations and I certainly gave it my best shot to get that fly going again. Probably should've just kept and passed the whole lot on but chucked it in frustration in the end. I did give the inner a whiz-around in the washing machine before posting to remove the dirt and the countless squashed NZ sand fly marks on the fabric and I was surprised at how well it came-up actually. Good luck with it. Cheers

Damn My poles didn't fit, I had to go down to the Recycle centre and buy some new S/H ones. A whole $5-
My poles were 12mm and I couldn't get them around the curve without making splintery noises
