I stumbled across the Te Pua-a-Tāne Circuit on a blog recently. Just wondering if anyone on here has walked this track and if so, how you rated it? It's in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park, North Island. There's not a lot of info on the web about it - could be either an overlooked gem or not all that exciting!
I'm trying to plan a couple of walks with my partner for next February but struggling due to the overwhelming options! We're looking at either two walks on North Island or two on the South. My partner is looking at spending a week on North Island with her mum afterwards, so for that reason North would be slightly easier. I'm thinking that if it were two NI walks then Round the Mountain Track and the Te Pua-a-Tāne Circuit would be a nice pair, with very different landscapes and ecosystems - one alpine and volcanic, one ancient temperate forest.
(Not looking for South Island suggestions in this post, thanks.)
