Me in July

Now that the photo comp for July has closed I can show you a few other images from my walk along Douglas Creek.
I had a lot of trouble deciding which image to enter this month.
This is just 4 of a huge number of photos taken here. I might get around to editing some more soon.

all lovely, but I like #3 is most of the set.

Are you shooting pre-dawn or with filters?

Most times I take a shot like that, I get blurred foilage. Must have been a still day?

A still day, but also very deep in the forest so quite sheltered.
TCP Just a CP filter.
Circular Polariser, to reduce reflections on the water, at the sacrifice of about 2 stops. 8 seconds? 30 seconds? Only difference to me was time waiting... Tripod was quite solid, and 8 seconds is still enough that the water was going to be rather milky. Not that it's a bad thing.
What I mean is without a CP filter the exposures would have been around 8 seconds, but with the filter I lose 2 stops, meaning I need to double my time twice to get the same exposure, hence 30 seconds, or thereabouts.
And the benefit of more natural colour in the water with the CP filter, taking out much of the reflection.

I presume you use a remote to prevent shudder when on the tripod?

The Nikon cameras we use have a few features to avoid shudder.
A thing called "Exposure Delay Mode" which raises the mirror then waits for 0.4 second before opening the shutter.
The built in timer, which can be set to 2, 5, 10 or 20 seconds.
And a remote control that I built - mandatory for exposures longer than 30 seconds.
Typically we use the Exposure Delay mode to avoid shudder from the mirror slapping up, as well as the two second timer to give the kit a bit of chance to settle again after the shutter is pressed. Not really needed, but what's two seconds for an added step to ensure clarity?
A cable release was in our kit, but it was a cheap Chinese one and now it has a busted wire somewhere - I am sure I can fix it - when I get around to it...
Story of my life lately.
I just got back from the printers having had these 4 images printed at 8 x 12" - and they look great!

Terrific work Adam. I like #3 the best too. I think it's the depth in that shot that gets me. The pandani in the foreground gets first attention then the eye wanders back further and further into the photo, then the little waterfall grabs the eye. It's a lovely result.

Go in the Arm River track past Lake Ayr towards New Pelion Hut.
When you get to the turnoff to Mt Oakleigh there is a suspension bridge. This crosses Douglas Creek.
Standing on the balcony at New Pelion hut, if it has been raining and the water is flowing fast enough, the water you hear flowing is Douglas Creek, in behind the rainwater tanks.
Heading south from Pelion Hut towards Pelion Gap, Douglas Creek is on your left. There are several access areas including one that has a boardwalk to the waters edge.
Well, at least you knew it was a dumb question
A nice area to see it is down past the Rangers hut at New Pelion hut. There's a nice waterfall there.
I will have to get around to sorting more of my photos from that walk and post them.
