This was my first multi-day trek to Tasmania in December 2007, which I did in the days leading to my 40th birthday. If I get a bit more time I will post some track notes (noting that it has taken me two years to work out how to upload photos!). On the trip I had the pleasure of meeting Son of a Beach and Wotrack who directed me to this site.
For the couple of days we spent around the cap the weather was perfect and both days I was able to climb to the summit and enjoy 360 degree view of Tasmania. After spending the first day trudging through torrential rain, I thought this was a pretty good deal!

I love that summit sign. Even with that sign pointing the way, it's very easy to miss the summit track at that point (we nearly did the first time).

As you were posting I added a note about how once you find the sign NOT to veer left as I did. Excepting one short tight bit with slight overhang, if you start serious rock scrambling you are going the WRONG way!
From memory, I also missed the turnoff first time. I was expecting it to be more toward the flatter terrain near the ridge that goes off to Irenabys, but it is actually a bit further back and goes a lot more vertical. Another reason we probably missed the sign was that you start to get overcome by the incredible views, especially on days where the visibility and weather was as good as we had it?
