Sunset on Mt Geryon from Lake Elysia

It's been a while since I put any photos up, so here's something a bit different.

Each of these two videos have been produced using a total of 999 still images, taken one second apart, then stitched together into a movie at 30 frames a second.

They are of course taken from Lake Elysia, looking at Mt Geryon.

You can zoom in on a couple of still images I took while I was here. They aren't that sharp on full zoom due to the JPG compression, but the originals look fantastic!

The zoom works by the slider at the bottom of the image, and you can drag the image around, or drag the blue box around in the thumbnail in the top left corner.
These will direct you away from the forum and to the files that are hosted on my web space, just use the back button on your browser to return to the forum.
An example of the extra detail seen in the original (although even this file is an 8 bit jpeg, compressed from 328Kb to 53Kb...)

Brightened up my day, or should I say lulled me into some lazy thoughts at the end of the day (the first video). What camera can you set at 1 sec intervals for 999 seconds?

Nikon D700. From memory, most DSLR's will do it. I know the D200 also can.

Thanks for the comments. I certainly enjoyed taking them, especially the funky cloud action. Standing there watching what was going on & knowing I was capturing it was one thing, but having put the movie together and seeing the movie, like, Yeah!

Did you take a computer in or manually do the exposures. I think you have a Canon don't you that only allows repeat exposures under computer control (I know mine does)

I used the Nikon D700. No computer, just go into the menu and enable multi exposure. All manual - white balance, exposure, focus, everything. Otherwise the images are likely to turn out different.
As an example, here are two GIF files, a sequence taken on a previous visit, with auto exposure.
This one is 1Mb - HERE
This one is the same thing but larger, over 8Mb, HERE.
With the exposure set to auto, you can see that when it gets dark, the camera lengthens the exposure. So rather than fade to black, it takes longer exposures until it gets to 30 seconds (and chews the batteries).

Then on the computer at home, use a software that will enable you to make a movie from multiple JPG files.
Of course I set the camera up to take the lowest resolution JPG image, and turned RAW off, to save memory space. Still bigger than 1080 so more than adequate.
And a tripod goes without saying, and move away so you aren't tempted to look thru & bump it.

Aha, it's called "interval timer shooting".

Nice work Adam.

I've been playing with this. On Canon, you have to buy an external interval timer. At last, I found an advantage of Nikon!

Takes some thought to capture the place and the changing light, you've done well.
