Occasionally Remarkable Cave just south of Port Arthur puts on a spectacular show. A sand bar can build up during summer allowing access to the inside of the cave without getting wet. During winter the sand is washed out of the cave. During rough weather when the swell off the Southern Ocean is rough, foam (edit: the sand) becomes whipped up in the surf. The result is a spectacular display wave patterns.

I went inside it many years ago on my honeymoon, but last visit the fencing looked to preclude entry.
Hopefully the dead seal that was under the walk way then is no longer leaving another impression on visitors.

If it's the foam you mean, it's my understanding it's created by organic matter usually from rivers etc mixing with wave action that churn it up. I saw heaps on the West Coast recently, apparently dogs often jump into it and are suffocated... it does look very cool though.

I think the foam is due to denatured proteins - a bit like beaten eggwhites. You will find it along coastlines etc after storms . So yes organic matter in the water from various sources.

I'm sure the surfers jump the fence in calmer weather Eggs to access the surf. A few years ago a storm destroyed the platform.

Fascinating stuff this froth and foam! Here's some that I saw along Myrtle Creek beside the start of the Penguin Cradle track last Tuesday. Some of it looked like freshly cooked Lemon Meringue Pie topping

I've seen recent pictures that would preclude walking through the cave. I've walked through a few times and surfers, like this one, make a habit of it to access the waves in the bay.
