Wirrawilla / Myrtle Gully

A lovely family walk today at Wirrawalla Rainforest walk and through Myrtle Gully, in Toolangi State Forest (Vic). A real hidden gem, this place. I had no idea there was cool temperate rainforest in those parts. It sits in a nice little unburned patch in the middle of the Black Saturday Kilmore East / Murrindindi Complex burn area. Looking at Google Maps, the surrounding (also magnificent) Mountain Ash forest has also been hammered by clearfell logging over the years :(.

Great pictures Russell.
A real gem given how much of that area was destroyed.
It's a strange but wonderful thing that such a fire left some places untouched.

Thanks for not going overboard with the Pics. Nice to see some more natural looking photos for a change.
Just looking at them makes me feel a few degrees cooler :)

Nice shutter Jobs!

The pictures got me going this morning so I'm just back from a circuit around the tanglefoot track which takes in the Myrtle Gully.
An 11km circuit with 19kg on my back for a training hike. It is quite beautiful. Some of those Beech Myrtles (or is Myrtle Beech) must be very old
and the whole locailty has been somehow missed by the Murrundindi fires in 2009.
I started from the Tanglefoot car park and really enjoyed it. Took me a bit over 3 hours with a break at Wirrawilla car park.
Thanks for posting Russell, I might even try to get the clan up there for a bit of leg work.
