Tassie Devil - Cradle Mountain Lodge

Postby frank_in_oz » Tue 16 Dec, 2008 8:53 am

We finished off a recent walk at Cradle Mountain Lodge and were very surprised to see a family of Tassie Devils living under the Lodge.
On the one sunny morning we had, this little fella decided to take in the warmth. He/she was very "relaxed and comfortable" chilling near the door to reception.

The staff told us there were 4 young ones in the litter. Last year there were 3 and they just headed off into the bush at some point.

We felt this was a very unique opportunity to see some very healthy devils although very wierd in the context.

Just enjoying the sun

Hi Frank, the first and last photo are not displaying for me.

I've always wanted to see devils in the wild, I guess this would be the next best thing :).

Thanks John,
They worked for me in "preview" TWICE and then they didn't in live ... I have changed their size (they are hosted on Picassa) and seem to have reappeared.
Let me know if still issues.

It WAS WIERD seeing them there, my impression was they are generally nocturnal AND shy. They loved getting out at night and "exploring" around the lodge - scavenging mother I assume.

I saw my first one, other than the family in this picture, last week at Stoodly, about 5km from Sheffield. They scamper!
