2 Nights on the Ben Lomond Plateau

Went up to the Ben Lomond plateau with my better half the weekend before last. Had a good couple of nights at the two small lakes on the southern part of the plateau. Walking was very easy off track, few navigational challenges, some very nice alpine plants, heaps of cushion plants.

Great pics Oll. I love the plateau once you get away from the ski area. Easy to access, and of 7 day trips up there I have only met other walkers once!

did you stay in established tent sites, or find spots to fit?

Thanks doogs. It's a nice area up there. A pleasant change to be able to walk cross-country with excellent visibility and no scrubby impediments! To my surprise we had a couple of people turn up and camp at Youl on the first night. They went off in the direction of Stacks the next morning and we didn't see them again.

I don't really think there are established sites are there?

The first night at Lk Youl was just down on the southern end of the lake where the "beach" and "dunes" are. The second night at Lk Baker I nestled the tent against some rocks on the (approx) WNW side of the lake, in a little grassy area between then scoparia. It provided excellent wind protection from the west wind.

At Youl certainly. You could pitch a circus tent there... sorta. At Baker I'm not so sure. There may be spots or on the eastern side, but we didn't go to that side so I'm just guessing. A lot of the lower ground around the lake was wet or dotted with small water holes. There were a lot of scoparia bushes, so it was hard to see where there might be flat open areas.
