First outing with my new macro lens- Liffey Falls

Wow- it took us 2 1/2 hours to do the 40 minute Liffey Falls walk- man there's a lot to see/photograph on that trail. That place is magical!

These are with my new 100/2.8 Macro, on a 30D, full manual, Tv 250, Av 13, handheld with a 430EX.

PLEASE- any comments, particularly about composition or technique, are welcome!

You have done well, Liffy Falls is certainly a good spot for macro!! Only comment I could make would be that maybe a few of them have the fungi placed a little to central, other than that DoF looks good and exposues are good. I love the purple one, look forward to seeing some more form you.

Michael.

The usual problem with this lens (I've heard - I don't own one yet) is getting used to managing depth of field. But from what I can see, you've done really well! Certainly better than I can od with a new lens. I'm no expert, but I thought I'd share my obs with you anyway!

I'd crop No 4 to remove the fungi at the bottom of the shot - it's a bit distracting.

No 7 is great - lots of nice detail! Could be nice to see it with a longer DOF, but might not have been possible given your stated apeture setting. Sometimes if you focus in or out a little from the ideal focus point can work (rough equivilent of hyperfocus distance).

Favorites: 5 & 8 - really nice shots with plenty of interest.
