Kangaroo Valley Camping

Just need some feed back of anyone who has been camping at Kangaroo valley, I do want some info on how to get there as well as I am without car at the moment.

I would like to go there and do some camping for 3 days at least and do some fishing and bush walking, not really interested in camping in camp grounds rather camp away from people if that's possible.

Cheers for any info, would like to go at the end of the month.

I did see quite a few fish there John. we were just having an easy day kayaking down the kangaroo river a few clicks down past the free campground there and fish were rising pretty frequently.

You can get a train to Nowra and then bus from Nowra to Kangaroo Valley (http://www.kangaroovalleytourist.asn.au/dir/bus_services_timetable) but it would be a fair walk from town to anywhere that you can "camp away from people".

EDIT: I just noticed that further down the bus timetable page I referenced above is a coach company that goes through Liverpool, this may be more convenient for you.

May I suggest something to you. You can hire kayaks/canoes from a company in the valley (http://www.kangaroovalleycanoes.com.au/) and head up the Shoalhaven river. Since you are without a car this may work as the hire company provides transfers for you and the equipment. Find a nice spot on the banks of the lake created by Tallowa Dam, set up camp, fish, swim, eat, drink and be merry. It's not the cheapest option but it may work for you.

A guy I know has his own canoe and regularly heads up the Shoalhaven River from the Bendeela camp ground and reckons it is a great way to get away for a quiet weekend.

a lack of car is a serious hold back.
this area is not well serviced with alternative transport options.
i canoe and fish the kangaroo and shoalhaven catchments quite a lot this time of year, but nowhere near town really. bass are plentiful once you get away from popular spots like bendeela. in fact avoid bendeela, it attracts the wrong crowd.
camping at flatrock (upper kangaroo river) is good as you can explore the escarpment and water falls, all off track stuff (though there are remnant forestry trails)
there are some good walks below the dam but one of my favourites is from a spot called bee hive point (keep going past the power station for about 15 km or so) to meryla (near moss vale).
also mcphails trail (AKA cannonball) is a good little heart starter if you like going down hills quite fast on a mountain bike.
