2 night Baw Baw hike?

Postby Drew » Wed 15 Feb, 2012 2:39 pm

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a route for a 3 day hike in the Baw Baw area? Something reasonably challenging, and preferably a circuit if possible. I'm assuming there must be some nice walks around there...

Cheers

It’s a pleasant area to walk but there’s not much that is challenging on the BawBaw Plateau unless you go off-track – then it’s all challenging :)

How about : BawBaw Village to Mt St Phillack, along the AAWT to Mt Erica, return cross-country (the hard bit) via Mt Tyers.
Note : Unless you are experienced in off-track navigation, don't do this!

What about starting the AAWT?
It needs a car shuffle, but : Walhalla to Thompson Valley Rd/Stronachs Camp (45km). The challenge is to continue on (in stages) and complete the AAWT :))

Thanks for the suggestion. I might have to grab a map and have a good look. It doesn't really have to be all that challenging, it's more that I much prefer to do 3 day hikes to 2 days.
I'm not sure that I trust my navigation skills quite enough to get too adventurous though!

Hey there are quite a few walks up on the Baw Baw's if you log onto SBWC.org (strzelecki bushwalking club - i'm a member) you can find a few walks planned - some track clearing with a few of the hardy locals who would set you up for a great walk or two (this weekend 24-27th Feb).
You may be able to read some of the old trip reports to get an idea of where to go too.
Cheers Marty.

Thanks Marty, lots of handy trip reports on there to give me ideas for walks.

Have fun track clearing this weekend - I hope it's not too hot for you!

Cheers,

Drew
