Three days in Namadgi?

I've got three days to spend in the Namadgi/Northern Kosciusko area in early December. I have never walked in Namadgi, and wondered if anyone could suggest a good three day backpack in the area, or maybe extending over the Border into Kosciusko NP or Bimberi.

You could check out the area around Oldfields Hut, Mt Bimberi and possibly Mt Gingerra. From memory the maps are Rendezvous Creek and Corin Dam.

Out of interest, how much do you charge for permission to reproduce your posts? My advice in this post is free, but if charging for copies is lucrative maybe I could fund one of those new HMG straight sided tarps....

I ran into a bunch of ill-prepared people who subsequently were the subject of a search. Much of the post was lifted by the Sydney Morning Herald and published. I probably wouldn't have minded if I had not made some rather negative comments about the people involved, which were reproduced in the paper.

So I edited the original post to criticise the paper, and added the copyright signature. I do not know what legal standing it has, as there is a "fair use" provision in the copyright laws as later postings point out.

Some time later, I added the original post back in again at the end of the thread.

Back to walking in Namadgi, user Tony here is more experienced in Namadgi than I am, might be worth a PM. John Evans also has comprehensive info on his website: http://www.johnevans.id.au/

If you're able to do a (long) car shuffle or get a lift my suggestion would be to go from Pocket Hut/Oldfields Hut to Corin Dam via Bimberi, Gingerra and Pryor's Hut. That has some off track (Up Bimberi) some overgrown double track and a fair bit of firetrail. Beautiful country, steep in places, views to the Snowy Mountains and back to Canberra.

Hi David,

A lot of Namadgi post 2003 fires is very scrubby these days but if you do not mind some scrub bashing there is some very good walking.

One of my favourite places to walk is the Mt Scabby/Mt Kelly area, which can be entered by starting at Yankee Hat car park, Gudgenby Gap, Sam Creek Fire trail (difficult to follow in places these days).

Another great walk is Mt Namadgi, again from Yankee Hat CP, the top of Mt Namadgi is a stunning place.

Please PM me if you want some more detailed information, though as justacouch has pointed out John Evan's blog has a lot of great information.

I don't know the area well enough to give advice beyond adding another vote for John Evans' site. However, I might be able to help out if you need a lift/drop off depending on when you're going if I'm walking at similar times.

OK, I will give some "advice": Orroral valley is beautiful and the Pryors hut Gingera area is pretty too. Regrowth can be nasty but not impossible on the trails I've done recently.
