Alice Springs Accomodation

Postby mountnman » Sat 29 Dec, 2012 10:02 am

I've booked flights to Alice Springs for September 2013 to hike the Larapinta Trail. I'll be staying in town for a few days before and a few days afterwards and was wondering if anybody could recommend accomodation.

Both positive and negative reviews are welcome, but please avoid being defamatory (but feel free to PM those comments!).

Looking for somewhere comfortable within walking distance (well short walking distance :D ) of Todd Mall that will hold a bag whilst I am on my walk.

Many thanks

I used the YHA. It was central, friendly, well equipped, comfortable and they still do films on the old outdoor theater screen but in a more modern way (not quite like Broome)

They have a variety of rooms from large capacity rooms for share to twin or double rooms. All share bathroom facilities but they also have private shower/toilet rooms. There is a laundry as well.

Many people doing the Larapinta Trail or taking tours out from Alice store their gear in the YHA's locked luggage room.

The kitchen/dinning room/lounge is clean, fully equipped and, as with most YHAs and backpackers, a great place to meet people and share stories.

It is located just behind the mall, beside the river and you can walk from there to the Telegraph Station if you are starting from the east end.

In September you will appreciate the large trees shading the YHA.

I have heard of some very good deals for hotels online. They may be a good option for lazy comfort and having the convenience of an ensuite after the walk.

I plan to stay at the YHA before and after my hike on the Larapinta

To be honest I hadn't even thought of the YHA - is definitely a doable option now.
