Looking for a good 2 day hike for next trip

Hi guys,

So hubby and I have sometime off next week and really want to get out there for a nice overnighter. Problem is I'm not sure where to go next... I only moved to Victoria last year and have now walked the more obvious offenders (Beeripmo trail and most of the Grampians as well as some of the walks at the Alpine National Park)

My question is, where would you recommend to go to next? because I don't really know the area I don't know what is worthwhile and what's not.
We are both quiet happy doing moderate - hard walking tracks as long as they aren't deadly hard lol

Welcome to the forum One Thousand Hikes. There are plenty of options for over night hikes in Victoria but depends on where you are located and how far you want to travel. Wilsons Prom, The Otways and Cathedral Ranges are all close(ish) to Melbourne and all offer great overnight hikes. If you read back through the forums you will get lots of great ideas.

Im a sucker for the Alpine National Park. Its my home away from home.

Overnight hike, id recommend Lake Tali Karng then for you, fantastic walk. Bit of everything.

If you can car shuffle then head in from the top and come out the bottom. If not then depending how many km's you want to do either go in and out from the top or in and out from the bottom.

You need to be more precise : how far can you drive ? Do you have 3 days, including one for transport, or are you strictly limited to 2 ? Apparently you haven't done much coastal walking, but that usually involves a car shuffle, or having somebody drop you off. Close to Melbourne you could try French Island, it's a walk nobody ever does (I've never even seen it mentioned it) and it's a circuit. You could create your own overnight walk around Mt Buffalo NP too, or if you're not afraid of driving 5 hours explore the Mallee. There's an overnight walk at Wyperfeld (2 days).

Mt Feathertop is a classic 2 day hike that I cant recommend highly enough. Either walk in and out via the Razorback with a camp at Federation Hut (or MUMC Hut - more scenic!), or do a car shuffle by walking down Bungaow Spur on the last day into Harrietville.

Just need to make sure that the weather permits, as it gets mighty cold up there, and with the majority of the walk over the Razorback being above 1600 meters, it's pretty damn exposed too.

That said, its one of the best, most scenic, and most accessible hikes in the country. Cant recommend it highly enough.

Protip for Tali Karng:
Wear shoes that a comfortable when wet.

Great tip.

If you go in and out from the top dont worry you wont have to get your shoes wet (no river crossings) but if you through hike it, or go in and out from the bottom then you will have to cross the river numerous (15) times.

You can simply remove your shoes at each crossing and go bare foot or wear sandals through the river crossings or as icefest suggested, wear shoes that you dont mind hiking in wet.
