I think i'd have to see a large print (in person). I'm thinking that the image quality won't be that noticable until very large but them the mojo of medium format has always been pretty obvious (even in small prints)

friend of mine was looking at large prints at a natgeo exhibition,, he said a lot of them were taken on aps-c cameras and they looked fine, he's a professional photographer.. he's had a full frame camera but doesnt use one any more, he says he doesnt need it

Yep. Also, if the lens is designed for APSC, it doesn't have to be as big as a lens designed to cover FF, so it can be even smaller.

On the other hand, if you don't mind manual focussing, you can ditch the AF gear on current lenses and mount a Leica or CZ lens on your camera and save even more weight. This would save a lot of the weight in your wallet too, so it's a win-win situation.

Yes. The photo is not about the gear, but sometimes it helps. You can get great prints from current APSC but if you want to go large, there are limits. Also depends on viewing distances.

btw, apparently Tokina have brought /will bring their 11-16mm out in a Sony mount. It is a very nice lens when you can't decide what to leave out, i'd imagine it would do justice to that full frame sensor:

Unfortunately the Tokina 11-16mm is an APS specific lens and won't work on full-frame without massive vignetting...

I guess Tokina have the Nex system in mind? I'd expect you'd want mostly prime lenses to compliment so much resolution with these new cameras anyway.

I reckon it would be for the Sona Alpha APS bodies (their SLT line) - the 11-16mm is designed for dSLR's, so if they converted it for mirrorlsss it'd be much bigger than necessary unless it was completely redesigned...

Ok, I'm not familiar with sony, have just done some reading. Iv'e been down this road before and think i'll stop reading The camera body will be just the start. Maybe i can justify a new camera for 'work' but it'll still likely just be aps.. (I was a fan of Tokinas lens on my D90, they now have a 12-28 (f4)) (...which doesn't have a lot of relevance to Sony full-frame but might cover 90% of what i'd do on its own)

I see the attraction of the small body, huge sensor. The weight and size would be less exciting with a few pro lenses.

I have been using the A7R for a week down at the Otways, completely happy.
It is a brilliant landscape camera with the all the advantages of a full frame, high res sensor, in a small and light body, customisable interface and the ability to use old and fabulous lenses.
I pair it up with a Manfrotto light weight tripod and Contax lenses, amazing photos.
I did not get this quality with my Canon 5D2 and L lenses.
It does not take long to really love this camera and setup

Very curious to see how it plays out in real world tests and if they release some lighter lenses to go with it now thanks to the new IS.

With all the Fx fluctuations of the last year or so, A7 body can be had for $1300 before GST refund, quite competitively priced internationally. Don't know how long the situation would last.
