I went to a Sam's Warehouse the other week and paid something like $5 for one of these -
It's a light wire grill set into an aluminium dish which is perforated to allow proper heat flow to the food without blowtorching it.
I used it for the first time on a recent two-nighter into the Shoalhaven Gorge for cooking steak and for cooking fresh bacon. It worked superbly, but had to be modified by removing the side-mounted wire handle and turning it into a folding handle. That was a simple enough job with the Leatherman. The way I modded the handle meant that it just hooked onto one of the wires in the grill and could be removed at will. Incidentally, I discovered that the wire handle when modified thusly made a very serviceable pair of tongs for turning the steak.
Weight of the modded item was 97g and it worked as well on an MSR Pocket Rocket canister stove as it did on the campfire.
