I intend to go. I will bring a Paddy "Rambler" backpack for show and tell but I have never used it so won't be able to comment on performance.

Where and what time will we meet? What shall we bring? I have never done glamping before and don't know much about it.

Ok, I get it. Do these images represent Australian style glamping? https://www.google.ae/search?q=glamping ... 01&bih=962

Boy I wish. I looked into getting a yurt years ago but they are massively expensive...

My version of "glamping" is "tent near the car so weight doesn't matter", so you can bring a bigger tent and some luxuries, and "eating food other than stuff you just add water to"....

Actuall, I'm not sure we are glamping at all: more car camping. I've seen in the US where people bring TVs and full beds with them for glamping. But seriously - what's the point?

Glamping means bring the luxuries
A chair, a really comfy chair and good food. Crystal glasses for the port etc perhaps a table to eat from and real cutlery
If you are going to sleep in a small tent than you add in a big fly as an extra

Would it be appropriate to bring a mountain bike?

Im with Erich, id call it car camping. Bringing whatever you can fit in, on or tow behind your car and setting up camp with it.

Glamping is 5-6star camping. Paying $1000 a night to stay in the outdoors in some exotic safari style accommodation with full amenities and then some.

The Park looks to be quite small so im not sure there are really any trails there to mtb ride on.

Id be interested in going for a mtb ride too if the opportunity exists if others are keen to go for a ride, and there is somewhere to ride?

Not much riding on Mt Franklin itself but the Goldfields Track/Great Diving Trail runs right past it and is hugely popular with mountain bikers. Hilly though so bring a spare pair of thighs.

We will be heading there mid-morning on Friday from Melbourne (taking a day off work and pulling the kids out of school :D ) so hoping to have our tent etc set up by lunchtime. Post here if you can come! It would be great to have some idea of numbers....

For anyone who hasn't been to Mt Franklin before, here is some info:

WOW...I have my own sleeping bag now. And maybe some warm(ish) clothes. There will be soup, and more or less comfortable chairs. Shoot, there's even a small tent heater. As long as the tent does not leak, we'll be fine.

Does anyone know if there is a mobile phone signal in the crater, especially 3G or 4G? It is Glamping so I am guessing phone or Internet use is OK as long as it is discrete? Please correct me if wrong.

I am looking forward to bringing my Feuerhand kerosene lamp. It is a high quality kerosene lamp, the only one left made in the West, in Germany. All the rest are made in China.

I seem to recall that there's a signal up there, and I'm with Optus, which is notoriously patchy outside of metro areas. Phones are OK as is anything else you may wish to bring. Moondog and I are bringing fairy lights, a cast iron fire pit, crystal glasses for port. Even the kitchen sink!

I think I can confirm, though my friends have dropped out. So just me and the little terror. I'll just have to chain him up while setting up the tent etc.

I was going to bring a big sunshade and poles, but given I'm on my own it may be a bit optimistic.

Looks like forecast is for rain too...

David I am going to cook enough Barley Broth for ~40, but so far we don't seem to have more than a dozen confirmed.
I think some will only make up their minds on Saturday AM as it's only a couple of hours drive from Melbourne
I hope we get a good turn-out tho as I've bought plenty of compostable soup bowls.
BYO Spoons tho; although if the local Op-Shop has any I may buy a dozen to use for car camping only.

Yep, it is going to be a lovely weekend! Whether you drop in or stay overnight, it will be great to meet a few more people from the forum.
MD & Cecile, safe travels.
Erich, my babysitters are looking forward to playing with (or is that corralling) your 'terror'.
Looking forward to meeting everyone else who can join us.

BTW, if anyone has an Alpacka packraft I'd be keen for some 'show and tell'. I've been trying to persuade my other half that we need to do some shopping

My wife and I should be there late Sat morning, staying the night.
I'll have a few Tarptents with me , just for a look I don't sell them.
(StratoSpire 2/Scarp 1/Moment DW/Cloudburst 3/Notch/Contrail/Rainshadow 2)
I will have bits of tyvek to give away (left overs from groundsheets) can be glued together with PVA
I will also have tubes of GE II silicone ,2.8oz (75g) $5 each.

Moondog and Cecile have set up camp. Apparently, the meal tent should be up by now! We've also nabbed one of the picnic tables  I'm also bringing some picnic rugs so people can lounge round in the sunshine.

@Franco, thrilled you can come. Looking forward to meeting your wife. And also looking at the Notch and Stratospire 2 :D If I have room I'll throw in our Hogback and Double Rainbow.

Anyone who is interested in a Tarptent, this is the opportunity to see a good selection of the range!!!!!!!
